Yesterday Magnolia Bakery opened on State Street, and what better way to spend a beautiful fall day than waiting in line? The Chocolate/Chocolate are my new favorite.

Tea & Poetry

The paper from tea bags is nice because it's strong, yet delicate. I find I am partial to it because it already has an aged look, and its tiny size can fit nicely into my typewriter.

As long as I can remember, I've had a habit of typing or handwriting passages from the books I'm reading. After I've moved on from the book, it's always nice to find one of these little notes to myself stashed in a drawer or slipped between sheets of music.

Goodbye Borders

I can still remember the first time I went to a Borders. My family would would always stop at these mega bookstores on our trips to the Chicago area. Growing up in central Illinois in 80's and 90's meant you were basically limited to the tiny Waldenbooks and B. Daltons in the mall. I had the inventories of these stores memorized by the time I was ten, and hardly ever just stumbled upon a new book by chance. I was dumbfounded, walking into my first Borders with all those books, and movies, and music! It was just heaven.

So this week has been bittersweet for me. With every trip to Borders I have found some lovely books to take home (that sadly, I would not be able to afford at list price), but it also hurts my soul to see all the empty shelves, the cafe tables and shopping baskets put up for sale.

I know that there is still a myriad of ways to read, find, and buy books, (and that Borders was a big bad chain store) but there was just something so nice about having them gathered together, with place to drink coffee, buy a cute card, listen to authors, and browse and browse and browse.

A New Member of the Family

This little cutie is my first Royal. It dates back to 1936 and is in marvelous working condition. I already typed several letters on it. And I just adore the button keys.

Craft Day

I covered these kraft paper letters in wrapping and origami paper to make a decoration for my brand new baby niece's room.

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee

I seem to enjoy photographing coffee as much as I do drinking it!

My favorite has to be the bear coffee though. It was totally thanks to my sister-in-law, who surprised me with the magical cup while we were in Japan.
